She pulled in off the road into a tight little parking lot. There were only five parking spots in front of the little red and white building. The sign on the outside said it was the "Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant" but it was obvious to her that it had once been a chicken joint in it's heyday.
There was only one empty parking space left in towards the back of the restaurant. It was a tight fit but she was able to pull her black 92' Buick Roadmaster into the space. Apparently, everyone else making their way down this little stretch had heard the same traffic bulletin and decided to pull of the road for a bit.
There was a large fire 20 miles away cutting off the road way. The fire was ignited by the burning body of a bird that had flown in to a powerline. She was on her way to meet a nice young couple to show them a house, but had to cancel due to the fire. The best way for her to stave off boredom during this temporary stranding was to seek sustenance.
She got out of the car, and walked into the restaurant. She was a large woman, a result of too many years of being alone. Food was her companion on this trip of life. Sure she had loved and lost, but until recently she was happy to be on her own. She was beginning feel the need of male companionship again.
She smiled as the waiter greeted her. She followed him to a booth at the back of the restaurant. She sat down, ordered a coke and a BBQ Pork appetizer. The room was oddly silent of conversation, or perhaps it was just muffled by the mandolin muzak playing various renditions of popular 50's tunes. She sat there for a minute trying to figure out which song was now being played. She finally realized that it was "Don't Be Cruel" by Elvis. What will they think of next she thought.
She looked at the many different awards decorating the wall next to her booth. She thought they must be a very popular place to have so many awards. The waiter came back to the table with her coke and a plate of BBQ Pork. She had decided to try the Chicken Chow Mein with an order of wonton soup. He took her menu and left.
She took a bite of the BBQ Pork, and thought about the new book she had purchased. She reached in her bag and pulled out a copy of "Self Defeating Behaviors - How to Heal Yourself."
